“Adapt or die”. This popular phrase sounds brutal but delivers a quick and straightforward message: if you don’t adapt to change, you won’t last. Especially if “you” is a business. Change is rarely smooth and painless. That’s why we need strategies to manage it and make it as pain-free as possible. This is where the concept of Change Management comes into play. According to IBM, Change Management is “…the method by which an organization communicates and implements change. This includes a structured approach to managing people and processes through organizational change.” Change Management doesn’t happen without people, but it’s crucial to involve and engage them in the right way. There are various methods to achieve this effectively. For example, in IBM’s article they mention methods like Bridges' Transition Model, Lewin's change management model, Kotter's 8-Step Process for Leading Change, and others. Stepping into the shoes of others is a valuable approach to understanding diverse perspectives, the correlations between various factors, and the interconnected impact of restructuring and managing change. Testing it in a simulated environment is a good idea. Trying it out in a business simulation is even better, as it not only broadens your horizons but also teaches practical skills.
